For the fourth consecutive year, Hi Fly has returned to Antarctica, commencing the season of flights for our client White Desert Antarctica from Cape Town to Wolf’s Fang Runway and back.
The Hi Fly crew aboard the Airbus A340 9H-SUN described the experience as truly remarkable and unforgettable, enhanced by favorable weather conditions characterized by clear skies and radiant sunshine, that allowed for a smooth landing on the iconic blue ice.
All aspects of the operation proceeded smoothly, and the flight rotation unfolded precisely as planned, leading to a gratifying experience for all involved.
The journey to the White Continent spans an impressive 2,500 nautical miles, requiring just over five hours of flight time each way. The Airbus A340-300, utilized for this operation, holds the distinguished record as the largest airliner to ever operate in Antarctica, marking a significant achievement in aviation history.
“Safe and efficient operations, are the result of a strong operational culture and comprehensive risk management,” remarked Commander Carlos Mirpuri, Vice-Chairman of Hi Fly and the commander of the inaugural mission in 2021, which marked the historic landing of the first Airbus widebody in Antarctica.
