Hi Fly has partnered with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) through the IATA CO2 Connect online tool, contributing to the aviation industry’s efforts to accurately measure and reduce carbon emissions.
Through this collaboration, Hi Fly will provide detailed flight data to IATA, helping to build a comprehensive, industry-wide database on CO2 emissions and other greenhouse gases. This data, collected from operators globally, will enable the development of precise metrics on average aircraft emissions. IATA will then use this information to establish industry benchmarks and guide policy decisions for global aviation authorities, including EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency), ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization), and Eurocontrol. The collected data will play a crucial role in advocating for policies that accurately reflect aviation’s environmental impact while supporting ongoing improvements within the sector.
João Ferreira, Hi Fly’s Internal Auditor and Emissions Manager, highlighted the importance of this partnership: “By gathering real fuel data, the industry can transparently and accurately quantify actual CO2 emissions. With the proper application of best practices and technologies, this tool enables the measurement of the ongoing efforts to decarbonize aviation by 2050. This partnership is initially set for 10 years, during which Hi Fly will actively contribute to refining emissions data and tracking the industry’s progress toward sustainability goals. By measuring, quantifying, and monitoring emissions, Hi Fly is playing a proactive role in ensuring that the aviation industry can implement meaningful changes and innovations to reduce its environmental impact.
