To foster a more responsible and ecological planet, Hi Fly and the Mirpuri Foundation, its principal sustainability partner, recently organized a joint social and environmental responsibility initiative to restore the native forest in Sintra-Cascais Natural Park.
Hi Fly, a leading wet lease specialist airline, invited its employees to better understand the forest, learn about its weaknesses and needs, and with the support of the Mirpuri Foundation to participate in its recovery and development by cleaning the area, knowing how to identify invasive species, and planting some trees among oaks, cork-oaks, mastic trees, and lentisk or narrow-leaved adorned.
The climatic conditions of the Sintra mountain range, resulting from the microclimate, relief, and soil, allowed the development of a dense, diverse, and luxuriant flora with more than 1000 species identified. However, this exuberance resulted mainly from human action, which modified the landscape through fires and the introduction of exotic plants such as maritime pine (Pinus pinaster), eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus), acacia (Acacia melanoxylon), and others that conditioned the development of species autochthonous and endemic.
As part of an environmental management plan for the area, this action was a responsible act of valuing the natural heritage, aiming to implement measures that promote the regeneration and restoration of native forests, reduce environmental damage, sustain local species, enhance biodiversity, and reduce the risk of fires.
Hi Fly, working with its principal sustainability partner The Mirpuri Foundation, is committed to contributing to a more responsible and sustainable planet by fighting against the very important issues that are plastic pollution and carbon emissions and is actively implementing and promoting good practices in its business.
Hi Fly, working with the Mirpuri Foundation, defends that:
– What is good for the world is also good for business;
– To sustain our success we must protect our greatest resource – the planet;
– Our success as a company depends on our people feeling inspired by their jobs and fulfilled in their careers.
Since its inception, the Foundation has worked alongside Hi Fly to help ensure that the Company becomes (and remains) one of the world’s leading proponents of sustainability in aviation. Hi Fly seeks to minimise our environmental impact by reducing emissions in our operations and in our supply chain, and by extending the lifecycle of products in use.
