27 March 2018

Their Majesties King Phillipe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium travelled to Canada on a 6-day State visit aboard one of Hi Fly’s Airbus A330.

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde have travelled to Canada with a delegation of about 200 people including government representatives such as the Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders, Secretary of State Pieter De Crem and key personalities from the business and academic world.

The Belgian royals were invited to the country by Julie Payette, the Governor General of Canada. The visit included events and ceremonies in the cities of Ottawa, Toronto and Montréal and Hi Fly was the chosen airline to perform these flights.

The royals first landed in Ottawa to a snowy landscape and were greeted by Julie Payette. On their first day, the King and Queen of Belgium participated in a maple tree planting ceremony and took some time to speak to members of the Belgian community in Ottawa. During their State visit their Majesties attended several events and meetings with Canadian government representatives such as the Minister of Canadian Heritage and the Speaker of the Senate of Canada also taking the opportunity to visit the National War Memorial where they signed the guest book and laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

This was not the first time the Belgian royals have trusted Hi Fly to whisk them about on their international commitments. The last occasion was not long ago, at the end of last year, when the airline flew their Majesties to a state visit to India when the two nations celebrated 70 years of diplomatic ties.
